No cost. 5 to 10 days ... call the 1-800 number for IRS in your phone
book, using their automated system, request the years required.

Hi Rete:

It depends upon exactly what you are requesting. You are correct on the
computer print outs of recent tax returns.

I'm not sure, but I think there is a fee for copy of the actual return
and if the return is past a certain age -- there is a fee -- a few years
back we had to request a return from the early 80's because SSA showed
no reported income for one year for my wife. We had to pay.

If you were to request the actual return or a W-2 then there is a fee.
If you are just requesting tax transcripts for the years in question,
i.e. last 3 years, there is no fee. Been there, done that ;-)

I was in the same position as your wife when I turned 50 and got my
first SSA report in the mail. Two years were missing from my statement.
Luckily had all my returns from my very first filing at age 16 ;-) and
that did the trick with the W-2.

Rete has answered your question, but now I have a question for you.
Since you obviously have access to a computer, are you not able to do
research on your own without asking for help with even the most
simple of tasks?
